Golden City Support Services Awarded ICT Grant for increasing computer access and skills
ICT (Information and Communication Technology) has become an important part of everyday life. Using the internet, email and social media are all ways that we gain information and communicate with each other. Many people with disability and their families do not have access to this technology or don't have the skills, or feel it is too hard. They may be missing out on being able to find information that they need or missing out on other ways they might connect with others and share experiences.
Golden City Support Services applied to the Community ICT Skills Grants program that is part of the Victorian Department of Planning and Community Development. The grants program awarded our agency $25,000 to be used to provide computer equipment and training for people to develop skills in computer use.
Training will be offered to people who want to learn how to use a computer to access the internet. People will not need their own computer to learn on as a set of laptops will be available in the classes. Touchscreen computer kiosks will be set up in each of the respite houses that GCSS runs (in Bendigo and Gisborne) and also in the main office at 48 Mundy Street, Bendigo. People will be able to use the computers and access the internet at these kiosks.
